Avalon is on my “101 Favorite Movies” list. Avalon is also a great movie to watch on Thanksgiving Day.

The story of immigrants making their way in America, this generational drama shows the struggles and hopes of the new Americans of the early twentieth century. From large Thanksgiving celebrations, to the tight knit fabric of family, from starting a business to moving to the suburbs, this sweeping, ambitious movie tells the story of one immigrant family.

Avalon is also just a very beautiful movie. The visual images and cinematography are outstanding. This movie is best seen on the big screen (as is “Burnt by the Sun”, also in my Favorites List). Or, this movie makes great Thanksgiving or Christmas viewing.

Great article, Tim. Jesus awlyas met with those that the “religious elite” found undesirable, or even subhuman. If we are to be His hands & feet & carry His message to all the world, we DO have to meet people where they are & use their language. I think it will take “one of their own” to reach in & pull people out of their complacency with ‘hood life’ & impact the black community for the better. We are awlyas suspicious of those who aren’t like us trying to preach at us. But if a black man is telling other black men the Truth of the Gospel in a way they will receive, then the Power that is in the Gospel to pierce their hearts will have a profound impact. Maybe even change the world!
