Laika, the first dog in space, died aboard Sputnik 2 in 1957.

The Soviet Union officially claimed at the time that Laika was euthanized on Day 6 of the flight, just prior to oxygen depletion.

And so, those were the words of the lovely Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) as she finds herself in Rick’s in the 1942 classic, Casablanca.

Movie aficionados also know that Rick (Humphrey Bogart) never said “Play it again, Sam.”

He said, “You played it for her. You can play it for me. If she can stand it, I can. Play it.”
